The Lazy Mum Health Plan
Now that I've read and reviewed almost a dozen diets, a core set of diet principles have become obvious. So I've put them into my own plan - the Lazy Mum Health Plan, covered at www.womens-health-and-fitness.com.
Basically, nutritionally-balanced diets agree that:
1. We need daily exercise - at least a 20 min walk.
2. We need to drink more clear fluids.
3. We need more vegetables - especially colourful green and orange ones. Drop the whiteys.
4. We need around 2 serves of fruit.
5. Choose whole grains instead of processed grains, in bread, rice, flour.
6. Low-glycemic foods are good for controlling blood sugar levels and hunger.
7. Distinguish between good and bad fats. Good fats include omega-3 and omega-6. Bad fats include hydrogenated oils and margarines - the harder, the worse.
8. Lean protein is good - fish, meat, eggs.
9. Low-fat dairy is good.
A lot of diets recommend increases to the traditional protein allowances, as long as they are lean meats, for the nutritional value and body repair.
So now I need to concentrate on exercise research.
